Harpers Ferry Model 1816 Musket Civil War Union Soldier ID

$2,200.00

Original Harpers Ferry model 1816 musket converted to percussion that was carried through the Civil War by Fred Munch.
Rifle is in fairly good condition, wear on the stock and metal but lock functions and no major damage.
Lots of research potential that I haven’t gone into, but I will share what I know. From the handwritten note pasted to the buttstock, we can see that it’s a druggist’s perscription note with …W Munch – his handwritten notes read “Musket – 71 years old – carried through Civil War by Fred Munch, uncle of M.W. Munch – Battles of Shil…” the last remnant “Shil” possibly meaning Shiloh.
Frederick Munch enlisted in 1861 and served for the duration of the war.
On Find A Grave, Frederick Munch of the 33rd Ohio, has his brother listed as Henry Adolph Munch, who is buried in Lovington, Illinois. Henry’s son is Milton William Munch, who is also buried in Lovington. Milton would be the nephew of Frederick Munch, according to these records.
There’s still potentially more to find out about Fred Munch and where he and this rifle saw action, but that will have to be the reaponsibility of whoever buys this piece of history.
